EMPSA Welcomes MPAY as Its Newest Member
Brussels, December 12, 2025
The European Mobile Payment Systems Association (EMPSA) is proud to announce that MPAY, Albania’s bank-centric payments network, has officially joined EMPSA.
Founded in 2010, MPAY has been a pioneer in account-to-account, interoperable mobile payments in Albania. Today, MPAY operates as a comprehensive payments network and processor across Albania and Kosovo, enabling mobile, online, and in-store transactions.
Through its KUIK brand, MPAY supports:
- Instant P2P transfers
- POS payments
- E-commerce payments
Interoperability is central to MPAY. The network enables users to transfer funds and make payments online or at POS instantaneously, regardless of borders or which banking institution holds the accounts. The company cooperates with banks in Albania to offer the highest standards and most secure transactions. MPAY continues to bridge the gap between consumers and banks, driving financial inclusion and innovation, and is actively pursuing expansion in the regional market.
Ludovic Laventure, Co-Founder & CEO of MPAY, said: “Joining EMPSA is a significant milestone for MPAY. It aligns perfectly with our vision of creating seamless, interoperable mobile payments that connect consumers, banks, and merchants across borders. We are excited to contribute to the European payment ecosystem.”
MPAY’s membership reflects EMPSA’s commitment to fostering innovation, security, and interoperability in mobile payments across Europe.
“MPAY strengthens EMPSA’s mission to promote secure, interoperable, and innovative payment solutions across Europe. Their bank-centric approach and regional ambitions make them a natural fit for our network”, said Teresa Mesquita, Chairperson of EMPSA.

About MPAY
MPAY, as a company was established in 2010, with the aim of providing bank-centric mobile payments on the Albanian market. Its namesake service was launched in 2013 in collaboration with Raiffeisen Bank Albania and Societe Generale Albania (now OTP Bank Albania). MPAY provided a payment processing switch allowing clients of banks to pay their utility bills, top up their mobiles, check balances of their bank accounts and receive alerts of their utility invoices. This was a pre-mobile banking era. The innovation MPAY brought at the time was the connection of clients’ mobile phones, regardless of how smart or basic they were, to those clients’ bank accounts. Such connection enabled and increased the interaction between bank clients and their bank accounts in terms of utility and usage. More information: www.mpay.al
